CYObasketball has a long history here at St. Gregory Barbarigo with a lot of great accomplishments, hard work and friendships. With the new floor in place – this should be an exciting and great season. At the same time, it is important to remember that it is part of the parish mission. Typically in a CYO program, the students who participate are from the Parish or the School, not exclusively, but for the most part. Well to help ensure this happens, to register in CYO a student needs to be either enrolled in CCD or in St. Gregory Barbarigo School. A central responsibility of the parish is to catechize the children who are in the parish with the hope of instilling the knowledge and practice of our Catholic faith and a commitment to Jesus Christ. Now granted, the CYO rules in the Archdiocese permit each team to include three children who are not from the parish or school; so if there is a student who is not Catholic, there is the possibility of their playing, but three is the limit. So finally – if your son or daughter is Catholic and is looking to participate in CYO – they need to be registered in the School or CCD first. And just to be sure, before each team roster is completed, we will do the team check to be sure all of our Catholic players are not just playing ball – but are also part of our Catholic Community. On the registration form there is a box to check which indicates your son or daughter is enrolled in the School or CCD.
